10 Steps to Combat Racism

So...

Somebody dares to say something on social media that members of a certain ethnic group finds offensive and insulting to their group as a whole and it now becomes an issue that deserves media attention...

Well- I am glad that this topic has come up for discussion, because I hear radio and television talk show hosts ask the question "How do we deal with racism?" and although politicians and experts give answers I still feel that this problem is going to stay with us for a long time to come.

Personally- I feel that it is because we did not get the right answers. Maybe- once we as South Africans have accepted the steps I am about to give below- we can begin taking them to heart and put them into action. Putting plans into action is an age old proven means to get things done, as you know.

So- without further ado here are my steps with which to combat and perhaps even eliminate racism:

1. Stop stealing from people that do not belong to the same race as you. If you expect that people from any race will love your race and accept them when they have to lose possessions to any of your cousins who could not keep their hands of them I have a revelation for you: They will hate their tormentors that are so easily recognised by obvious traits such as skin colour!

2.  Fix the national electricity supply to put an end to load shedding! You may think that other races are gullible enough to believe your lies and excuses the way your own people do, but I can assure you that they don't! Just shift that focus from your own pocket to getting the job done right and do what is needed! I really hope for your sake that you know how to do it because you would not like to be called a baboon, right?

3.  Leave disaster management funds alone! Well... at least until there IS a national disaster on which to spend it of course... You can't expect people to think kindly of you if you were in charge of money that was not supposed to go anywhere, but which has suddenly disappeared, now can you?

4.  Don't attack civilians and damage their property if you are upset about the government's service delivery. Who wants to see people like that have the same rights and get the same respect as those who do not act in such a barbaric way? You understand this, don't you?

5.  Don't make luxurious improvements to your house at the State's expense! If you have already done so- then PAY BACK THE MONEY! (Don't tell me you did not see this one coming...)

6.  Stop farm murders! NOW!

7.  Refrain from violence of any kind against members of other ethnic groups/ races. Really- this is so obvious!

8.  Mind what you say- but not just that- Don't say, sing or write anything that is derogatory or encouraging violence against people that belong to a race different to yours.

9. If you work in the public service sector- do your duty and assist those you are expected you assist and do not send them from pillar to post with all kinds of excuses! If you manage to do this right you will find that members of the public will not feel the need to search for one of their own in your institution just for the sake of feeling safer.

10. Have good manners. That is always a winner. Besides- 10 is a good number to have...

When will we see these steps go into action? Well... in the words of The Offspring:

"I have a feeling it will be a long time."
